OBX Sweet Treats
My husband and I have had our own business for nearly a decade now, so
I'm pretty partial to mom and pop shops. I like the idea of supporting a
local family, and keeping the money we spend here rather than in
Virginia at a big box store or chain restaurant. Another
thing I'm pretty partial to... desserts. So when two cool new locally
owned sweet shops opened up this spring, I knew I'd become a
customer. The first to open was Zen Pops, a popsicle shop located in
the Seagate North Shopping Center in Kill Devil Hills. Crystal, the
owner, makes everything from all-natural ingredients. The popsicles are
fantastic, and the homemade ice cream is delish! In Nags Head on the
Beach Road, the recently opened Surfin' Spoon serves frozen yogurt in a hip,
beachy hangout. Try the watermelon sorbet. Yum! Both are great places
to cool off after a hot day at the beach... and you can feel good about
supporting our local economy, too!
