A New OBX Hot Spot: Trio in Kitty Hawk
My husband and I so rarely get a night out to ourselves, so that when we do we make it quite an occasion. I had heard about Trio, the Outer Banks' newest wine bar, opening in Kitty Hawk and we made plans to try it out. And what a fun date night we had! Turns out that Trio--named for wine, beer & cheese--is a really cool, hip place for adults.
The front half of Trio is dedicated to the retail side of the business, a place where you can purchase unique wines and unusual cheeses. In the back is a copper-topped bar, and wine tasting machines. The concept of the tasting machines is that you can have a taste, half or full glass of one of the 24 wines on tap. That means if you've always wanted to try a $100 bottle of pinot noir, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg, you can simply get a taste of it for a few dollars. The upstairs--the "mezzanine lounge"--is a comfortable area with leather sofas and a pool table where you can just chill out and sip wine.
Check out Trio if you get a chance; I found it to be a nice date night alternative to a loud bar or a sit down dinner. They're in Kitty Hawk, on the Bypass at MP 4.5. Cheers!
