JOIN the FUN!: Visit the Elizabethan Gardens
Need a break from the sand and the waves? Spend the afternoon in Manteo, getting lost in the beautiful Elizabethan Gardens. Planted by The Garden Club of North Carolina, the 16th century Garden was created to memorialize the lost colonists of Roanoke Island. You'll love the romantic sunken gardens, the Queen's rose garden, the flower-lined walkways and the Shakespearean herb garden. The myriad of plants, wildflowers and shrubbery combined with the antique statuary make for a picture-perfect afternoon. A favorite spot for local weddings, you'll see why brides choose this outdoor venue over the beach. Open year-round, 7 days a week, the gardens' summer hours are from 9AM-7PM. Adults are $8; children are $5; and children five and under are FREE. Call for a guided tour or check out their website elizabethangardens.org for special events, classes, camps and plant sales.
