Hand Made Shoes, Right Here on the OBX!
This past Christmas my husband (always searching for new and creative present ideas) gave me a gift certificate to Chameleon Clogs. I'd never stepped foot in the store, so the present was a little bit of a surprise to me. But shoes are one of my dear loves, so I was certain that I could find a way to spend my gift certificate. I waited almost 6 months before I stopped by Chameleon Clogs in Nags Head. It was unlike no other shoe store I'd ever been in. Instead of picking a pair out, trying it on and buying it, at Chameleon Clogs the shopper gets to design her own shoe which is then made by local artist and craftswoman Rabiah Hodges! From low-heeled to high-heeled, leather to zebra-print, the combinations and choices are endless.
I had so much fun designing my shoes-- a brown strappy leather sandal with silver studs and a heel. Four days later, Rabiah called and my shoes were ready. What a cool experience! Not only did I get to design my own shoe and have it made to order, but it was made by a local artist right here on the OBX!
