JOIN the FUN!: Climb Cape Hatteras Lighthouse for FREE

So many visitors that come to the Outer Banks make it a point to tour our beautiful lighthouses. Some are open for climbing, like the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, and others, like the Bodie Island Lighthouse and Ocracoke Lighthouse, are not. It's been years--decades, actually--since I last climbed the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Maybe it's because I live so close to these beautiful landmarks that I take them for granted. Friends of mine that live in New York and New Jersey have been to the top of Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Cape Hatteras Lighthouse more often than I have.
On most days, there's an admission fee to climb to the top of the accessible lighthouses. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton is $7.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla is $7 for those 8 years old and over, and FREE to children ages 7 and under. However on the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse's opening day--Friday, April 15--you can climb for FREE! Don't miss your chance to climb to the top of this 198-foot structure (the tallest lighthouse in the country) for FREE on this one day only. Climbing hours are from 9AM-4:30PM, and groups of 30 are allowed up every ten minutes. Call 252-995-4474 for more information.
