Last Minute OBX Christmas Gift Ideas

We're down to the wire now... only five more shopping days until Christmas!  It's getting a little too late to order online gifts, unless you want to pay through the nose for shipping.  Besides, we have all the cool gifts here that anyone could ever want!  If you're stumped on what to get your loved ones, here's a few last minute Outer Banks gift ideas.  Your friends and family will love them, and you'll be supporting the local economy at the same time!

1. Local art - I like to peruse Gallery Row in Nags Head, Art Space in Kitty Hawk or the Dare County Arts Council's Gallery in Manteo, but there are lots of other places to find unique paintings, pottery, jewelry and more.

2. Gift Certificates - The gift certificate is the gift that keeps on giving.  Whether it's for spa services, dinner out at a local restaurant, towards clothing at a boutique, or for a round of golf at one of the many local golf courses, gift certificates are a fabulous one-size-fits-all type of gift.  You can't go wrong.

3. Local beer or wine - The Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills brews its own beer on the spot, and you can purchase a "growler" to give to your favorite beer connoisseur.  For locally grown wine, try Sanctuary Vineyards.  Located across the bridge, this winery produces some tasty libations.

4. Locally made spices and treats - JK's Restaurant sells its own spice creation for seasoning steaks, seafood, French fries--whatever.  Last year I bought several of these and used them as stocking stuffers.  Outer Banks Rum Cakes is another local favorite; a yummy rum-drenched cake with an interesting legend, this treat makes a great gift.
