See the OBX from the Sky... in a Helicopter!

This past weekend was so much fun, that it's almost a blur.  Between my relatives visiting, throwing a birthday party for my 3-year-old, the Duck Jazz Festival (which was AWESOME, by the way!), shopping in Duck, and taking a helicopter ride, I had a blast.  The helicopter ride was truly a highlight.  My son is obsessed with helicopters.  Any time we see one in the sky, he points it out and talks excitedly about it.  I can't tell you how many times he's asked me if we could ride in a helicopter one day.  So, as a special birthday treat, we decided to surprise him with a ride in a real, honest-to-goodness helicopter.

Coastal Helicopters operates out of the Manteo Airport, running various sightseeing flights over the Outer Banks.  We chose a short flight over Manteo.  What a ride!  I'll never forget the look in Sam's eyes as the helicopter started to lift off the ground.  It was a combination of fear and excitement.  He looked at me, I think to gauge my reaction, and when he saw me smiling he relaxed and started to have fun.  He just stared out the window the whole time saying, "Look at this, Mommy!  Look at that!"  The ride was short--only about 10 or 15 minutes--but well worth the price and the drive to Manteo for an experience I know that we'll never forget.  Check out obxhelicopters.com for information on tours and pricing.
