Back to Blogging! (And cool events for this weekend, too!)

It's been more than two months since I've been out of the office, unplugged and away from the Beach Blog.  In the weeks that have passed, I gave birth to my second child Charlotte.  Time apart from the daily grind and tucked away in my home with my sweet little baby girl has been wonderful--sleepless, yes--but wonderful nonetheless.  In the past few weeks I've tried to get out and about with Charlotte, taking her on long walks in the baby carrier.  I'm not sure who enjoys these walks more; I get fresh air, exercise and to wander the Outer Banks by foot, and she gets a cozy nap snuggled up to her mom.  One of my favorite walks to take with her is around the Wright Brothers Monument.  Climbing to the top is the best part; from there I can see the Outer Banks as only a bird can see it.  From the glistening Atlantic to the sound to Run Hill, I'm awed every time I stand atop that big hill.

Of course, the past few days has brought rain--and quite a lot of it!--putting our walks on hold for the time being.  Thankfully, though, this wet weather is supposed to end just in time for a beautiful weekend.  And what a weekend it's supposed to be!  This Saturday there are a couple of fabulous annual events that I always make it a point to attend.  Starting at 9 AM on Saturday is the Big Sweep and Trashfest put on by the Surfrider Foundation.  Bags and data cards for picking up trash will be available at certain beach accesses.  Afterwards, bring your data cards and your trash bags to the Outer Banks Brewing Station for an afternoon of free food and live music until 4 PM.  Also tomorrow is the 21st Annual Artrageous Extravaganza.  Starting at 10 AM at the Dare County Rec Park there will be live music, local artists, activities for kids, a scrap exchange, hands-on booths and great food.  Come on out to clean our beaches after a busy summer, and afterwards head over to Artrageous  to support our local artists!
