Indulge in a Spa Day on the Outer Banks

As a woman who's less than a month from having baby #2 (in a heat wave, no less!), a day at the spa is just about the most relaxing way I can imagine passing time.  Being pampered and off my feet for a few hours is just heavenly, and that's exactly what I'm going to do this Friday.  it's not often that I book a spa day for myself--I think the last one was in January for my birthday--but every time I indulge in one I think I should do it more often.  This visit I'm going in for a pedicure and a pregnancy massage (a truly divine treat where you lay on a specially contoured pillow for pregnant bellies and get a wonderful massage).

There are plenty of great spas on the Outer Banks that offer the same things you might get in a larger city--facials, massage, waxing, pedicures, et cetera.  I'm headed to Diva's Day Spa in Southern Shores, but others in the area include Hairoics in Kill Devil Hills, The Sanderling and Aqua S in Duck, and Spa Vogue in Kitty Hawk.  There are others, too... just check the phone book for the one nearest your beach cottage.  I recommend booking your spa visit as soon as you get to the Outer Banks as summer is the busiest spa season here.  Wedding parties tend to keep the spas booked (at least for hair and nail appointments) on Saturdays and Sundays (mostly in the mornings and early afternoons, though), so keep that in mind if you wait until the last minute.  There are a few spas that'll send nail technicians, hair dressers and massage therapists to your beach house, too.  Either way, don't miss out on a day of pampering on the Outer Banks... after all, you're on vacation!
