Nags Head Fishing Pier
Of all the Outer Banks fishing piers, I'm probably most familiar with the Nags Head Fishing Pier. We live not far from it, and my husband likes to fish off of it occasionally. I personally enjoy the Nags Head Pier Restaurant... it truly gives a slice of coastal Carolina life. Their motto: "If you hook 'em, we cook 'em!" So you can catch your lunch right there off the pier and have them clean it, cook it and serve it to you. My favorite is breakfast time at the restaurant; I like eating my sunny side eggs with a sunny view of the crashing surf. Breakfast is pretty busy here--especially in the summer--so if you want the view and not a lot of wait, try it for dinner instead. Plus, if you eat dinner at the restaurant, they'll let you take a free walk down the pier (usually the sightseeing fee is $1.50 per person).
Of course, if you're like my husband, you're more interested in the fishing than the dining. There's a little tackle and bait shop inside the pier house, and the folks there are pretty knowledgable about what's biting and the best bait to use. You can purchase daily, weekly or seasonal passes for the pier there, too. Another bonus for the fisherman: the pier is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the spring, summer and fall. That's non-stop fishing, if you want it!
