Kitty Hawk Kites & Kitty Hawk Sports to Join Forces

Two favorite local stores--Kitty Hawk Kites and Kitty Hawk Sports--will once again be under the same ownership.  According to an article by Carolyn Shapiro in today's The Virginian-Pilot, the two local businesses are reuniting.  In 1974, John Harris and Ralph Buxton opened Kitty Hawk Kites together.  In 1990, Buxton branched off to open Kitty Hawk Sports.  Kitty Hawk Kites focused mainly on hang gliding and kiteboarding, while Kitty Hawk Sports' emphasis was on kayaking and windsurfing.  Buxton recently decided to sell his three Kitty Hawk Kites stores, and knew he wanted Harris to be the buyer.  The terms of the deal were undisclosed.  Buxton plans to stay on at Kitty Hawk Kites until the end of the year.
