Day at the Aquarium
With all the rain we've been having this winter, I've been scrambling to find indoor activities to keep my 2-year-old son busy and to keep us both from getting cabin fever. Last week we took a trip to the Aquarium on Roanoke Island. I like to take Sam every couple of months because he always seems to find something new he loves. Plus, it's a great educational and fun outing for both of us that doesn't cost much (in fact, last week it was free on Martin Luther King Day!). This time, Sam's new obsession was the shark tank. We sat down in front of the tank and watched the sharks for over half an hour! And we were lucky... two divers were in the tank cleaning it the entire time. Sam was fascinated. Each time a shark went by, he'd name it... usually "Mommy Shark", "Daddy Shark" or "Sammy Shark". When the rotund nurse shark swam by, he loudly exclaimed, "That shark's bigger than Pop Pop!" Everyone within earshot laughed, although I'm sure Pop Pop wouldn't be so amused! If you find yourself cooped up and sick of the rain, take the drive to Manteo and check out the Aquarium... I highly recommend it!
