Holiday Shopping on the OBX
Once again, I've waited long past Black Friday to begin my Christmas shopping. Lucky for me, all of my family members (and especially those who don't get to live here but love the OBX) want Outer Banks-related gifts! So, like last year, I've made a pledge to myself to do as much Christmas shopping at our locally-owned stores rather than cross the border and spend my money elsewhere.
My shopping trip began at Kitty Hawk Kites, one of my favorite places to get cool gifts. What's more, they're running a sale--20% off the whole store. If you're a local and have a valid ID, they'll up your discount to 40%! With such a great discount, I felt like I was getting paid to shop! They have a nicely stocked toy area upstairs, which I raided for presents. I bought one family member a portable horseshoe game. For Sam, I found a cute wind-up toy stocking stuffer. After Kitty Hawk Kites, I drove a few miles north to Outer Banks Boarding Company, a great little surf shop owned by an old friend of mine. I found another great sale going on there, too--buy one OBBC shirt and get the second half-price. Hating to pass up on a deal, I bought a couple of OBBC t-shirts for my nephews.
I must admit, after just two shops, I had to call it quits. My two-year-old was not as into Christmas shopping as I was! I plan on hitting up Gallery Row in Nags Head over the weekend. I can always find something unique and artsy at the shops and galleries along that stretch. I also plan on picking up some JK's spice from JK's Restaurant. My in-laws are huge fans of the steak house and their seasonings; plus I know they can't buy that in Maryland! Doing my Christmas shopping locally makes me feel good about giving back to my community, and I know the presents I'm giving are unique--not just something you'd see in every mall in America.

It’s really great post on holiday shopping, nice blog..I would like to appreciate your work and would like to tell to my friends.
Thanks for sharing

Yes, what I like about Kitty Hawk Kites, is their toy area. I never take my baby with me to this shop as it always ends in a scandal, so I buy toys for him and my nephews on my own.

Thanks for the tips. That 40% off of toys is amazing! I will have to look it up - definitely. I hope you left something. LOL
