Nasty November Nor'Easter

Cue the music... Here comes the sun (doo-doo-doo-doo), here comes the sun... And I say, It's all right...

After days and days of dreary, rainy, gray and downright miserable weather, the skies parted this afternoon and the sun made an appearance!  I must admit, I love a stormy day here and there, but this past week was one for the books.  As the nor'easter (nick-named by the Weather Channel Nor'Ida after remnants of tropical storm Ida) sat firmly overhead for three days, we had a bit more rain and wind than we'd expected.  Water levels rose pretty high, especially during high tides, making the Beach Road impassable in many places.  But today, after a weekend and then some of stormy weather, we began to see some relief.  Judging by the traffic, I think everyone was out and about this afternoon checking out the beach to see if it was really as Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel had predicted.  Adam, Sam and I went to Gull Street in Nags Head to survey the situation.  The beach there looked fine--possibly a bit more narrow--but relatively unscathed nonetheless.  Sam was quite pleased with the number of seashells that the storm had washed up, and we spent a good half hour scouring the sand for beach glass.

After nasty Nor'Ida, I'm looking forward to a sunnier week.  The Weather Channel's calling for sunshine over the next few days, and I think many Outer Bankers will be outside enjoying the change!
