2009 Parade of Homes
The 17th annual Parade of Homes is this week, October 8-11. If you've never taken part in the Parade of Homes, you're missing out. Last year I took the tour with my husband and in-laws. And while none of us were in the market for buying a new home, touring the homes was a great opportunity to get new ideas for renovations and decorating, as well as a good chance to talk to builders and homeowners. The homes we toured ranged from opulent (think oceanfront palaces with game rooms, theater rooms, outdoor kitchens...) to well-built starter homes. Builders, pool installers, tile layers... just about everyone and anyone you could think of that has a part in home building and home renovating is on hand to show off their handiwork. For those interested in buying or renovating, this is a great opportunity to see homes for sale and to meet potential home builders or remodelers. For me, it was a fun afternoon of peeking in different homes and finding new and creative ways to decorate. The 29 homes span from Corolla to Hatteras Island, so you can leisurely pop in a few or try to make a marathon couple of days and see them all. Tickets are $10 for all 4 days, and can be purchased at any of the homes along the tour. Ticket proceeds go towards the Outer Banks Food Pantry.
