2009 North Carolina Big Sweep Coming Up
Mark your calendars... the Surfrider's annual Big Sweep is set for Saturday, September 26. Come out and help clean up the coastline from 9-12 AM at beach accesses all up and down the Outer Banks. Or stop by Kitty Hawk Kayak and Surf School at the foot of the Wright Memorial Bridge for a FREE kayak rental to anyone who wishes to clean up the creek. Bring your bags of trash to the Outer Banks Brewing Station between 12-3PM for an after-party and cook-out. For more information call 252-305-7082.
The Big Sweep is one of my favorite, feel-good local events of the year. I brought Sam last year (and while the lesson might have been lost on a 1-year-old), maybe he'll start to recognize the importance of caring for the beach and the world around us as we take part in this every year. Plus, it's a fun day at the beach and a FREE after-party and cook-out at the Brew Station. Speaking of the Brew Station, if you haven't been yet this year, check out their new fenced-in back yard. Complete with picnic tables and a pirate ship for kids to climb on, it's a great little place to chill out with the kiddies and enjoy one of their delicious micro-brews.
