Spring is in the Air!
Finally... April is here! For me, the first of April is always a sign that we are out of the woods, as far as winter goes. And this April 1st was no different. I turned off my over-worked heater, opened the windows in my house, donned my favorite Reef flip flops and went for a stroll on the beach with Sam.
And I'm not the only one feeling the warm weather itch... signs of summer are popping up everywhere on the Outer Banks. Drive down the Bypass and you'll see restaurant marquees everywhere saying: "We're Open!" After a long (and occasionally snowy!) winter, the Outer Banks as you know it is coming back to life. Local souvenir shops and art galleries are sprucing up their store front displays, gearing up for the summer shoppers. Grocery stores have readied themselves for vacationers by moving wintertime staples like movies and popcorn from the ends of the aisles and re-stocking the shelves with snacks for the beach, bottles of water, beach bags, charcoal and coolers. Swimsuits, beach wraps, shorts and t-shirts greet shoppers at the discount stores. Yes, the mountains of sand pails, shovels, sun screen and beach chairs have arrived.
So stop daydreaming about your beach vacation and plan it already! It's April, and the Outer Banks is ready for the season...
