Land of Beginnings Festival

Today is the first day of the Land of Beginnings Festival, a 9-day event that celebrates Outer Banks history and culture.  Take the kids by the Wright Brothers National Memorial Pavilion this afternoon for the Children's Faire.  From 10 AM - 2 PM, little ones will be treated to storytelling and kite-flying, along with a time capsule burial.  I've heard from other parents that this is a great event for even very young children.  I was planning on taking Sam, but my plans have been thwarted by a nasty flu virus!  Alas, we'll have to wait until next year when both mom and baby are healthy.

For the adults interested in participating in the Land of Beginnings Festival, there's the Living Legend Community Luncheon on March 30th at the pavilion.  The cost is $18, and you must register in advance.  On March 31st, the North Carolina Dance Theater will perform "American Masterpieces" at the First Flight High School.  The cost is $15, and the show begins at 7 PM.  On Roanoke Island at the Festival Park, you can attend the satirical drama, "The Night Before Take Off".  Tickets are $7.50, and the show runs Friday-Sunday afternoon.  And lastly, the 9-day celebration is capped off by a gala at the pavilion in Kill Devil Hills.  The "Black & White Ball: A Global Affair" is on April 4th from 6 - 11PM.  Tickets are $100, and reservations must be made by Friday.  Call (252) 473-2127 for more information and to make reservations.
