The Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station is on the Move!

Just like the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse a few years back, the Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station needed a little lifesaving of its own to keep standing.  The building, built in 1897 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been unused since 1988.  The U.S. Coast Guard was the last tenant, and ever since the station has fallen into disrepair.  On Tuesday, the Virginia Beach company Expert House Movers began the process of lifting up the building so that it can be put on pilings.

What a neat idea! I'm not exactly sure who you'd contact about buying a paver or a piece of the Lifesaving Station, though. I suppose calling the Virginia Beach company Expert House Movers might be a good start. They might be able to put you in touch with the person who can help you.
