Freedman's Colony Celebration the Weeekend

Join in the Freedman's Colony celebration this weekend on Roanoke Island.  The festivities are to honor the Freedman's Colony that the Union Army established on Roanoke Island back in 1862.  The weekend kicks off with Friday night's Freedman's Colony Blues Jam in the Film Theatre.  Tickets are $15, and the featured artists are Hubert Sumlin, Bob Margolin and Matt Walsh.  Saturday night the Hesperus Cossover Quartet will play music from the 1927 film "The General".  Tickets are $10, and the event starts at 8pm.  On Sunday at 4pm, Class Act Tours will perform "The Unknown Lincoln: A Portrait in Song" in the Art Gallery.  Admission is free.  Call (252) 475-1500 for more information.
