George Barnes Valentine's Day Oyster Reef & Roast
I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine's Day! My in-laws were here visiting from Frederick, Maryland, and we had such a wonderful time. Saturday morning we bundled up Sam and went to Jockey's Ridge to participate in the George Barnes Valentine's Day Oyster Reef & Roast at Jockey's Ridge. Hosted by The Friends of Jockey's Ridge State Park, the event was to honor retiring Park Superintendent George Barnes. The goal of the event was to bag up tons of oyster shells that had been dumped in the parking lot, so that the shells could be used to create a reef. The reward for the hard work was a fabulous oyster roast. Lots of people from the community came out to participate, in spite of the chill in the air. We had a great time, worked hard, and slurped down our fair share of oysters before Sam's naptime got the better of us.
Later on that evening we spent Valentine's dinner dining at The Pearl Oceanfront Restaurant. What a fantastic meal! I had a French dish that I can't pronounce (or even attempt to spell) which was thinly sliced veal in a delicate lemony, butter sauce. Dessert was a chocolate concoction of tasty goodness. Yum!

We had a blast at this event, we loved helping bag the shells to build the reef. My friends were here from Booneville, NC they helped too and had a good time. It was their first time at Jockey's Ridge so we took a hike around the dunes and checked out the spectacular view!
