Valentine's Weekend Activities

It's a busy weekend for cupid, and also for the Outer Banks!  If you're lucky enough to be visiting this weekend with your sweetheart (or your whole family), there are lots of fun things to do.  The Outer Banks Running Club is hosting the Sweetheart 8K Run/Walk & Children's Fun Run tomorrow morning at the Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo.  Kids run for free; adults are $25 per person.  Registration will be open at 8am on race day.  Proceeds from the race will benefit the Dare County Food Pantry at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Manteo.

If running isn't your thing, check out the George Barnes Valentine's Day Oyster Reef and Roast at Jockey's Ridge State Park.  The event, hosted by The Friends of Jockey's Ridge State Park, is in honor of retiring park superintendent George Barnes.  The oyster roast is free; and in return attendees are asked to bag up the oyster shells that clog the parking lot.  Those shells will be used to create a reef.  Stop by from 10am - 2pm on Saturday, and join in the fun!

For those of you who have romance on your minds, there are plenty of fantastic local restaurants offering Valentine's Day Specials.  Adam and I will be dining at The Pearl in Kill Devil Hills tomorrow night.  A fantastic little gem of a restaurant, The Pearl is known for its classic French cuisine and ocean views.  Tucked back in the Sea Ranch Hotel, it's one of our favorite date-night spots on the beach.  I can already taste the creme brule!
