Biking Around the OBX
I have a big ol' beach-cruiser. The type I'd always dreamed about... thick tires, cushy seat, little basket and cute hibiscus flowers painted all over. My husband presented it to me for Christmas a few years back, and it's still one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. But pregnancy and the bundle of joy that followed has put my sweet ride on hold for nearly two years. This spring I'm going to fill the tires, wipe the dust off and attach the extra-safe, super-sturdy baby seat that was another present from Adam. I'm taking her back on the road! I've missed out on all the great bike routes the OBX has to offer. One of my favorite rides is behind the Wright Brothers Monument, along Bay Drive in Kill Devil Hills, and down the path along the Sound that crosses into Kitty Hawk. Only a few times have I had the fortitude to follow the bike path all the way through Kitty Hawk and into Southern Shores. Serious bikers can go much further than I do; the bike route follows NC-12 from Southern Shores all the way to Corolla! Another biking adventure can be had along the bike path on the Beach Road in Nags Head. Between the ocean and Jockey's Ridge, there are so many beautiful sights to enjoy. Plus, if you get thirsty or want to grab a bite to eat, there are plenty of great restaurants along the way including Tortuga's Lie and Lucky 12.
