A Historic Day for the Nation... And Snow on the OBX!
No matter what your political affiliation, everyone can agree that today is a monumental day for our nation. Around noon today Barack Obama was sworn in as our country's 44th President. More than a mile of spectators lined the National Mall, watching the ceremony on huge flat screens. Adam and I watched the ceremony right here in our office, broadcasted over the Internet by CBS. It was a powerful and moving ceremony, and I am so proud to have witnessed history.
Here on the Outer Banks, this day will be remembered as a day not only of great change for our country, but as the first "blizzard" we've seen in years! Snow was promised by the overzealous forecasters--as it sometimes is--but RARELY do we see more than a flurry. In fact, the last time I remember having enough snow to stick was around four years ago. But around 8am in Kill Devil Hills, the snow began to fall, and kept falling... and falling... and, well, it's still coming down at 2pm! There isn't much in the way of accumulation (I'm no weather-woman, but I'd say there's less than an inch), but it's still an impressive sight. I plan on leaving work early today just to check out the beach in these unusual conditions. For everyone on the roads... Please be very careful and drive slowly!
