NC Aquarium Hopes to Rebuild on Old Jennette's Pier Site

This morning, over my usual cup of coffee and bowl of Special K, I perused the North Carolina section of The Virginia Pilot.  The top story was about the former Jennette's Pier.  For anyone who was around prior to 2003, Jennette's Pier was an old Nags Head landmark, a real haven for fisherman and tourists alike.  But Hurricane Isabel took her toll on the pier, and both the pier and pier house had to be torn down.  The North Carolina Aquarium has hopes to rebuild on the same site, making it a "recreational outpost" of the Aquarium.  They had initially planned construction starting this spring, but over-budget construction bids are causing some delay.  According to The Virginia Pilot, the North Carolina Aquarium had budgeted around $14 million for the project, but the lowest construction bid they received was $27 million.  Project planners for the Aquarium are now working to pare down the plans to bring the budgeted cost closer to the actual cost.  I'll keep following the story as it progresses...
