Autumn Dining on the OBX
I'll be the first to admit it... I'm a terrible cook. My husband, on the other hand, is a fantastic chef and does nearly all of the cooking in our house. If it weren't for him, I'd eat cereal every night! That being said, even Adam needs a break from the same-old spaghetti/taco/pork chop grind. And it's on those nights that we get to enjoy one of the great fall pleasures on the Outer Banks... dining out. Autumn is perhaps the best time of year to eat out on the Outer Banks because restaurants, with their slower off-season pace, get creative with ways to attract diners. There are great oyster specials at a number of places, some offering a dozen steamed or raw for as low as $3.99! Chilli Peppers uses the fall and winter to run their Thursday night "Tapas Night", which has a huge local following. Kill Devil Grill does a half price wine night on Wednesday, and the booths there are ALWAYS full Wednesdays nights. A few local eateries feature "Dollar Taco" nights to pull in a crowd. If you search around, you can just about always find a restaurant running a great deal this time of year. And, what's more, the service is usually much better than you'll get at the height of the season when waiters and waitresses have full dining rooms to contend with. So, save yourself the hassle of washing dishes... go out to eat tonight!
