Ten Cool Things to do on Your Vacation: Tour the Duck Research Pier

The pre-eminent coastal observatory for recording data about wind, waves and currents is the Army Corps of Engineers Field Research Facility (FRF) in Duck.  Since 1977, information collected at the FRF has been used to study coastal process and their effect on shorelines and beaches.  Each summer, tours are available weekdays at 10:00 a.m. from mid-June to mid-August.  Learn about the Coastal Research Amphibious Buggy otherwise known as the CRAB and other specialized equipment that helps oceanographers, researchers and scientists learn more about the dynamic coastal environment.
