Ten Cool Things to do on Your Vacation: Kite Surfing

Kite surfing has exploded on the Outer Banks recreation scene, and its easy to see why.  The warm shallow waters of the sounds combined with the notorious Outer Banks breezes make this a perfect spot.  Beginners will need to start with a power kite lesson, which is a 3 hour lesson held on land to get folks familiar with power kites.  For the sake of simplicity, we'll define power kite and a kite so large it can move you around.  Power kites can be ridden on boards in the water as well as on land.

Some people are only interested in the first lesson, while others progress to a second afternoon lesson and actually kite board in the water.  If you're interested in learning more, Kitty Hawk Kiteboarding at Milepost 16 on the Bypass offers a power kite demonstration Monday - Thursday evenings at 5:00 p.m. during the summer.
