The Northern Outer Banks offer 3 opportunities for pier fishing at Avalon Pier, Nags Head Pier and Outer Banks Pier.  They all offer rod and reel rental and also sell anything you'll need to make the best of your fishing expedition.  Best thing is you don't need a fishing license!  Different species bite at different times of the year and experienced and helpful pier folk will be happy to fill you in on the action!

Another plus to pier fishing is that it offers creature comforts like bathrooms and drinks and munchies for sale. This also makes pier fishing kid friendly. Some piers have snack bars or restaurants if you want to pick up breakfast or lunch while you're there.  Plan to spend a few hours or all day, or maybe a split session.
