Summer Programs Announced for Chicamacomico
Our good friends at the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site have just announced their summer programs scheduled for June, July and August, which sound fun as well as educational.
Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. enjoy a beach bonfire and hear tales of the brave men of the United States Life Saving Service and the rescues they have performed. Arrive 15 minutes early for tickets and to make your way to the beach.
Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m., Carol Dillon of Buxton will share her memories of growing up on Hatteras Island during World War II. She was the basis of the character Taffy, in Nell Wise Wechter's novel for children Taffy of Torpedo Junction.
Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. the ever popular beach apparatus drill takes place. Learn about the Lyle gun and breeches buoy that were used in many rescues.
Fridays at 2:00 p.m. author Scott Dawson will explore the 400 year old question, what ever really happened to the Lost Colony.
Programs last about one hour and are family friendly and held outdoors. In case of inclement weather, call ahead. Self guided tours of the Chicamacomico site are available Monday - Friday. Admission is $4.00 for children, youth and seniors and $6.00 for adults.
