April is the time for Elizabethan Gardens

If you're going to be on the Outer Banks this month, consider a trip to Elizabethan Gardens on the north end of Roanoke Island.  There is about a two week period when the gardens burst alive with blooming dogwood, wisteria, azaleas and flowering bulbs.  Of course the gardens are beautiful year round, but when the dogwoods bloom it makes them seem extra magical.

Spend a leisurely day strolling  through the rose garden and the knot garden.  Experience the scent of flowers and the herbs in Shakespeare's herb garden.  View the interesting statuary.

The Elizabethan Gardens are open 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. during April, May, September and October. During summer months hours are extended to 8:00 p.m.  Check online for hours of operation during the off season.

Don't forget the gift shop at Elizabethan Gardens, as well as the plants that are available for purchase.  You might find some nice gifts for Mother's Day.
