Take a Hike!
Winter is an excellent time for taking nature walks on the Outer Banks. Pick a day when temperatures are on the mild side. Cool clear days with bright blue skies are perfect for getting outside and moving around.
During the month of February we'll highlight a few places to take a hike.
The Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve is a great place to commune with nature. The 1,400 acre maritime forest offers 6 different hiking trails of various lengths and difficulty. Wear appropriate footwear and stay on the paths.
The preserve is a unique habitat and home to birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and over 300 plant species, some of which are classified as rare. Bikes and pets are prohibited on footpaths, so leave Fido at home. The Nags Head Ecological Preserve is located at the end of Ocean Acres Drive in Kill Devil Hills.
