WI-FI hot spots -- Free Internet Access on the OBX
Those visitors looking for Internet access while here on the Outer Banks will find many more options this year than in the past as far as free Wi-Fi Hot Spots are concerned. There are more and more cottage owners who are adding Linksys Wi-Fi Internet connections to their rental homes and these Internet radio signals will carry 1-3 houses away from the transmitters. This means that just because the house you rent doesn't offer Wi-Fi, the house next door or 2 doors down might and you can use their signal to get into the Internet -FREE. Another new service is the OBX FREE INTERNET Wi-Fi system that the Beachbook is installing. It will be available all over the OBX by summer. We, at Joe Lamb Realty, just became part of that system by installing an antenna on our building that will transmit free Internet access to anyone within about a 1/3 mile radius of our building. Along with us there are many many other antennas that will cover the rest of the Outer Banks, or atleast 70-90% by summer. You might have to move around your rental cottage or move to the top floor or deck but won't it be worth it to be able to stay connected to the Internet while on vacation - even while on the beach!
Along with all the new access areas there are WI-FI Hot Spots were the owners provide a wireless network where customers can come and access the Internet from their laptops while on in their store or outside from your car in the parking lot.
